Making PDF Documents to Post on UBLearns

As a department, let us find new ways of using technology to reduce the reliance on paper and ink to share information. Below are suggestions made by the Conservation Committee. Please feel free to contact the Conservation Committee with additional methods to be added to this webpage.

Instead of copying handouts for each student in your class, please consider posting notes or other documents on UBLearns. It is helpful to convert notes into a PDF document for easy posting. If you are unfamiliar with this process, see the instructions below.

To Make a PDF through the SMBS Network

Go to the OMC Citrix Web Application Page at:
http://www.smbs.buffalo.edu/omc/computing_application.htm

Click on "DeskTop"

Sign in using your SMBS username and password

Access your document on your P drive or the S drive from the Citrix desktop, not your actual desktop.

If you haven’t done this before, you go to the “Start” button above your usual “Start” button.
Start
Programs
Windows Explorer
My Computer
Then choose the appropriate drive and folder

Open up your document

Click on File

Print

And then choose Adobe PDF as you printer

It will ask you to save the pdf in a folder and then that is it.

If wanting to print PowerPoint notes, follow the steps above, except, when you hit print:

Select the adobe printer

Then in the “print what” box select “handout” (most likely)

In the “color/grayscale” box, select “grayscale” (most likely)

Then choose # of slides per page.

Hit preview to make sure you like what you see.

In the preview mode, you may hit “options” which will allow you to add a header and/or footer.

If you like what you see, hit print and an adobe document will be made.
