December 2021: Abigail Snyder

Abigail Snyder.

Abigail Snyder, May 2021 Graduate from Prof. Gardella's group

NOTABLE RECENT ACHIEVEMENTS

I’m in the process of publishing two manuscripts based on the work from my dissertation, but my work was featured in a recently published book, Thicker Than Water: The Quest for Solutions to the Plastic Crisis, written by Erica Cirino. If anyone’s interested in the ongoing fight against plastic pollution, they can pick up a copy here: http://www.ericacirino.com/plastic.

RESEARCH HIGHLIGHT

My research consisted of surface analytical chemistry focused on PFASs detection, qualification, and quantification on various polymers, including microplastic pieces collected from the Great Lakes.

I enjoyed coordinating events for my fellow students and helping to foster good communication between graduate students and the department heads as an E-Board member of the Graduate Chemistry Club. I also enjoyed the community outreach opportunities where I got to teach kids about the joys of chemistry!

Outside of lab, I enjoy cooking, baking, playing sports, and playing video games. I also like going to local festivals, conventions, and concerts in my free time!

CONGRATULATIONS ABIGAIL!
