February 2021: Ameya Burde

First author publication in Chem. Commun.: Copper-catalyzed enantioselective synthesis of bridged bicyclic ketals from 1,1-disubstituted-4-methylene-1,6-hexanediols and related alkenols (2021)

My research focuses mainly on utilizing copper-based catalysts towards the development of enantioselective alkene difunctionalisation reactions involving radical group transfer. The ability to combine enantioselectivity with radical group transfers makes this chemistry unique and exceedingly useful for the synthesis of biologically important molecules.

The department has a very welcoming, friendly, multi-cultural environment which makes for a very fun graduate experience. I also feel fortunate that I can interact with knowledgeable faculty members which apart from being inspiring has also enhanced my skills as a chemist.

Apart from Chemistry, I am also interested in Indian Classical Music and have been learning to play the Tabla (Indian drum) for the past few years. I also enjoy playing badminton, experimenting with desserts, solving cryptic puzzles and sampling local restaurants.
