Graduate Applicants

PhD Admissions MA Admissions International Admissions

International applicants should first review all UB requirements for International Student Admission. In addition to all application requirements for the Global Gender and Sexuality Studies PhD or MA programs, international applicants must also submit:

  • The International Student Graduate Financial Form, as well as certified bank statements proving the information submitted on the financial form. 
  • Official TOEFL scores (taken in the last two years). TOEFL scores should be submitted to the department via ETS.org.  The institution code is 2925
  • The TOEFL Essentials test is temporarily approved for the purposes of meeting English language proficiency requirements for admission to all UB degree programs up to and including spring semester 2024. The UB minimum score requirement for the TOEFL Essentials is 8.5.

Minimum Score Requirements:

The minimum TOEFL scores required are 550 for the paper-based test (TOEFL PBT); and 79 for the internet-based test (TOEFL IBT).

The University at Buffalo does not currently require minimum cut-off scores for the four individual subsections. Though there is no required minimum section score, most accepted students are expected to achieve the following section scores: Reading: 19/30; Listening: 15/30; Speaking: 19/30; Writing: 19/30.

Undergraduate Applicants

Incoming Students: Apply to the University at Buffalo

Incoming freshman or undergraduate transfer applicants who are interested in pursuing global gender and sexuality studies must first apply and be accepted to the University at Buffalo.

When applying, you should indicate your intended major on the application form. All relevant information, including admissions criteria; the online application; dates and deadlines; and standardized test score requirements, can be found by visiting UB Undergraduate Admissions.

Current Students: Request to Change to the Major or Minor

Current UB undergraduate students who are interested in majoring or minoring in Global Gender Studies must complete the CAS Major/Minor Change Request form.

Submit the CAS Major/Minor Change Request form to request one of the following changes to your academic plan:

  • Add a major, minor, or certificate in the College of Arts and Sciences
  • Drop any major
  • Drop any minor
