Professor Kari Winter on Global Citizen

Commenting on New Zealand terror attacks, Professor Kari Winter from the department of Global Gender and Sexuality Studies points to the global character of terrorism.

Professor Winter was asked to comment on the recent anti Muslim terrror attack in New Zealand, she said “It’s so clear in New Zealand that the problem is not a local problem,” she said. “This is a terrorist from Australia who’s heavily influenced by a Norwegian terrorist and who also cites people like Donald Trump. We’re not looking at an isolated locality, we’re looking at a global phenomenon that touches on global conditions.” Recognizing global and intersectional character of terrorism and violence is crucial for understanding today's politics.
