(BS Psychology and Journalism 1978, MA English 2000) worked for 25 years as reporter and editor at the Buffalo News. From 1997 until 2007, he created, edited and wrote for First Sunday, the News’ Sunday magazine. Under Anzalone’s editorship, the magazine produced prize-winning stories, including “The Incredible Shrinking City” (2005) and “Why Not Buffalo?” (2006), both of which earned first prize in the New York State Publishing Association Awards for Community Service. It also turned a profit at a time most Sunday magazines were folding. Anzalone worked on a wide-range of stories, includingsubjects as diverse as corruption in the capital, the future of the Buffalo Bills, and the search for the best food and restaurants on the Niagara Frontier. Anzalone now works as senior editor/media specialist for UB’s Office of Communications, where he writes and edits stories and news releases, and helps manage media relations for faculty research and special events.
Anzalone has taught in UB’s English Department since 2003. He specializes in literary journalism and editing.
