The 2017 UB Summer Strings Workshop will be hosted by UB String faculty member Jonathan Golove (cello), along with Workshop colleagues Andrea Cone (violin), Leanne Darling (viola), Rachel Lauber (conducting), Donna Lorenzo (viola), and Moshe Shulman (violin).
The goal of UB Summer String Workshop is to expose players and music educators to the many facets of string playing in our current era. Through this six-day course, participants will be able to work intensively and improve their skills in solo, chamber music and orchestral playing. A certificate will be awarded to all participants who complete the course successfully.
Workshop activities will include hourly lessons, chamber music coaching, master classes, contemporary music workshop, string orchestra rehearsals, faculty recital, student recitals and string orchestra concert. Each student will receive at least one 60-minute lesson during the course of the workshop. Extra lessons can be arranged for an additional fee. Selected students and groups will peroform in student solo/chamber music recitals.
Saturday, June 24 – Thursday, June 29
Please meet in B1 Baird Hall on Saturday, June 24 at 9:30am for orientation, which will include the introduction of faculty and staff members, room assignments and daily schedules. Orientation is followed by placement auditions for orchestra and solo recital and masterclass.
Rehearsals & Coaching
Rehearsals and coaching will be held in Baird Hall and Slee Hall rehearsal rooms, located on the North Campus of the University at Buffalo
All student concerts will take place in either Baird Recital Hall (250 Baird Hall) or Lippes Concert Hall (Slee Hall). The faculty recital on Saturday, June 24 will take place at 5:00 pm in B1 Baird Hall.
