Media Advisory: UB to discuss Gov. Cuomo’s investment in UB’s genomic medicine research and supercomputing power

The University at Buffalo will hold a news briefing today to discuss Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo’s $50 million investment in UB to launch the genomic medicine and “big data” initiative that he announced today in his State of the State address.

The briefing is being held today, Jan. 8, at 3:30 p.m. at UB’s Center for Computational Research in the New York State Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics and Life Sciences, 701 Ellicott St., Buffalo.

The briefing will focus on the genomics medicine and supercomputing research and expertise that uniquely positioned UB to co-lead this statewide initiative.

  • Thomas Furlani, PhD, director of UB’s Center for Computational Research
  • Lawrence Wrabetz, MD, PhD, director of UB’s Hunter James Kelly Research Institute and professor of neurology and biochemistry, School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences
  • Peter Winkelstein, MD, executive director, UB’s Institute for Healthcare Informatics and professor of pediatrics, School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences
