BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo’s Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics and Life Science (CBLS) will host a discussion about the cost-effective way for your company to get the help it needs while providing real-world job experience to UB interns.

The event will take place on May 15 from 4-5 p.m. in the Bruce A. Holm Commons area, located on the second floor of the New York State Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics and Life Sciences, 701 Ellicott St.

QuaDPharma Director of Quality Assurance Ryan Downey will share how engaging with UB students has helped its operations. QuaDPharma Inc. serves the pharmaceutical community by overseeing the manufacturing process from a small, pre-commercial scale through the commercial development stage.

A networking social will follow the lecture, where representatives from UB’s Career Services, School of Management and School of Engineering and Applied Sciences will be available to answer questions about current internship opportunities for students, and for companies wishing to utilize student interns in their workforce.

Representatives from various sectors of UB’s faculty and career services will also be present to offer their insight into the life sciences workforce, including Kathleen Boje, associate professor of pharmaceutical studies, Robert Orrange, associate director of career services, and Sandra Small, PhD, business development associate, workforce initiative, at the CBLS.

“The offices and faculty at UB are instrumental in pairing students with life science companies,” said Small. “The programs’ success is based on providing students the competitive edge gained through real-world experience in a life sciences company.”

“It’s been a win-win situation,” said Downey. “Our intern has had the opportunity to experience the ins and outs of our company firsthand. She has made such a lasting impression with her work at QuaDPharma Inc. that we plan to extend the internship throughout the summer, beyond the limits of a single college semester.”

The discussion is part of the Life Sciences Commercialization Lecture Series, hosted by CBLS. The CBLS mission is to foster economic development by connecting university resources with life sciences and high-tech industry through funding, research and development support, programing and education.  The goal is to help companies find business solutions, accelerate new ideas and grow.
