BUFFALO, N.Y. – Individuals seeking to set themselves apart with elevated manufacturing production credentials have an opportunity to do so through the University at Buffalo TCIE.

UB TCIE is now designated as a Manufacturing Skill Standards Council (MSSC) assessment center.

MSSC is a national training, assessment and certification system of the primary skills and knowledge needed by frontline production and material handling workers. The MSSC system is based upon industry-defined and federally-endorsed national standards.

As an authorized testing location, UB TCIE will administer MSSC exams that measure core competencies.

“Our goal in partnering with MSSC is to contribute to shaping a new generation of workforce and education strategies,” said Timothy Leyh, UB TCIE executive director. “We feel strongly that becoming an MSSC assessment center gives our community a significant advantage, as it provides individuals with greater leverage in securing higher-wage jobs and employers with better insight into worker proficiency.”

UB TCIE will provide four exams in the following topics:

  • Safety
  • Quality practices and measurement
  • Manufacturing processes and production
  • Maintenance awareness

Individuals may sign up for one or any combination of the four. Upon successfully completing an exam, individuals will be rewarded with a certificate.

Each exam aligns with corresponding courses of MSSC’s Certified Production Technician (CPT) program. The CPT online simulation training modules prepare participants for an advanced manufacturing environment and are offered through training organization partners. To locate an institution that provides CPT courses, visit www.msscusa.org.

Those who pass all four exams within two years will earn full CPT certification. The CPT is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).

Completion of CPT program modules is not necessary to register for an exam.
