BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo will hold its annual Neighbor’s Day Block Party and Safety Fair from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 9, on the Hayes Hall lawn on the UB South Campus.

The event, a longstanding community tradition, provides an opportunity for neighborhood residents and UB students who live off campus to get to know each other and to kick off the academic year in a relaxed and informal environment.

The block party will begin with the “Running of the Bulls,” a parade featuring UB’s Thunder of the East marching band and student athletes who, beginning at 4 p.m. at the intersection of Winridge and Winspear, will wind their way through the surrounding neighborhoods and end at the lawn in front of Hayes Hall at 4:30 p.m.

The party will continue on the lawn with live music by Buffalo’s Deja Groove Band, free food and information tables staffed by businesses in the Main-Bailey neighborhood, as well as university departments, local police and government and community agencies, where participants will be able to receive information about block clubs, community and civic groups, local businesses and university services.

The event will conclude with a simulated room fire at 6:30 p.m. to demonstrate how quickly fires can spread and how to guard against it.

Press arrangements: Dan Ryan, director of Off-Campus Student Services, at 716-830-5016.
