BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The University at Buffalo will host the seventh annual Safe Schools Initiative Seminar from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on March 11 in the Center for the Arts on the UB North Campus.

This year's program will provide a detailed look at the development of gangs and cliques through school-related problems. In particular, it will review how the lack of an effective truancy program provides the impetus for the development of negative-behavior cliques in school and how these cliques develop into organized gangs. This program will address techniques for dealing with gangs in communities and schools, and provide current information on street gang involvement in schools and the rise of negative youth movements, such as Straight Edge, and the increasing danger of Juggalos.

This half-day seminar is free and open to all who deal with school safety issues, including grade school, middle school, high school and district faculty; staff such as administrators, counselors, psychologists and school resource officers; and school board members; college/university administrators; police officers and other law enforcement officials.

The lead presenter for the seminar is Dale Yeager, a criminal analyst and CEO of SERAPH Corp. Yeager began his education as a criminal analyst in 1988. He has extensive training in criminal psychology, forensic psychology, sex crimes investigation, crime scene forensics/procedures and domestic terrorism analysis. Yeager also received advanced training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center from 2005-08.

This year's program sponsors include the United States Secret Service, Buffalo Field Office; UB Office of Student Affairs, University Police and the Western New York Educational Service Council; National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, New York Branch; and the United States Attorney's Office, Western District of New York. The exclusive seminar sponsor is Utica National Insurance Group.
