Media Advisory: UB inventors to be recognized for devices ranging from cardiac catheter to handwriting analyzer

More than 25 University at Buffalo faculty inventors will be honored today (March 15) at the UB Inventors and Entrepreneurs Reception to be held from 4-6 p.m. in the Center for Tomorrow on UB's North Campus. Formal program begins at 4:50 p.m.

The 18 patents issued in 2009 and 10 commercial licenses being celebrated cover a broad range of inventions, from a new cardiac catheter to an automated pill crusher to a method for comparing handwriting samples.

Robert J. Genco, UB vice provost and director of the Office of Science, Technology Transfer and Economic Outreach (UB STOR), and Jorge José, UB vice president for research, will make opening remarks, and Jeffrey A. Dunbar, STOR director, will discuss commercialization of UB technologies.

Woody Maggard, associate vice provost for UB STOR, will briefly comment on progress on the UB Biosciences Incubator.

Each inventor will receive a plaque at the presentation.
