BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Registration is open for the University at Buffalo's second annual Coast to Coast Symposium on Arts, Entertainment and Media (UBC2C NYC), to be held July 23-25 at Macaulay Honors College at CUNY in New York City. The three-day event is designed to bring UB students and recent graduates together to learn, network and explore careers with prominent UB alumni in arts, entertainment and media.

Thanks to donor support, students pay a reduced fee of $100 and may apply for a limited number of travel and lodging stipends; details are at http://www.ubc2c.com. The symposium will include visits to television networks, studios and media outlets such as MTV, Chicago City Limits and Silvercup Studios. One-on-one networking with successful UB alumni in the entertainment industry is a major draw of the program.

More than a dozen workshops on topics ranging from theater and dance to comedy writing and jazz improvisation will be led by some of the biggest names in the business.

One of the most powerful women in television, Abbe Raven, BA '74, will be the keynote speaker. She became president and CEO in 2005 of A&E Television Networks.

Other symposium speakers will include UB alumni Alan Zweibel, BA '72, multi-Emmy Award-winning writer, producer and playwright; Ted Kryczko, BA '76, past vice president of product development for The Walt Disney Co.; Linda Gelman, BA '72, producer, Chicago City Limits; Ken Tabachnick, BA '77, general manager, New York City Ballet; actor Peter Riegert, BA '68; Paul Zuckerman, BA '72, director, writer and executive producer, Chicago City Limits; and Jeanne Palmer-Fornarola, MA '00, clinical assistant professor in dance at UB. Saul Elkin, SUNY Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus, UB Department of Theatre and Dance, is also a workshop leader.

Organized by the UB College of Arts and Sciences, UBC2C NYC is a networking and educational event designed for students and alumni from UB and New York City-area colleges and universities who aspire to careers in the arts, entertainment and media industries. Symposium speakers will lead sessions on arts management, directing, comedy writing, entertainment news media, acting, entertainment law, new media and independent films. For more information, or to register for the symposium, go to http://www.ubc2c.com. Sponsors include VarietyMediaCareers.com and Bergamot Station Santa Monica.

"UBC2C NYC promises to be another spectacular opportunity for industry leaders, our students and our alumni," said Bruce D. McCombe, dean of the UB College of Arts and Sciences. "Students and alumni benefit from working with industry insiders, and our alumni benefit by sharing their expertise. We teach in the classroom, but they are true practitioners. We are grateful that they are willing to share what they know with students."

The first UBC2C symposium on entertainment and media was held last year in Hollywood. Participants included 235 UB alumni and 39 students who attended on scholarships provided by generous donors.
