Buffalo, N.Y. - The Center for the Arts, University at Buffalo and The Natya School of Classical Indian Dance present ABHINANDANAM on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $26.50, Students (any school) $13.50.

In this presentation dancers showcase the traditional Indian classical dance forms of Bharatantyam and Kuchipudi, and weave it as a tribute to their beloved teacher or Guru. The dancers perform the intricate rhythmic dance movements and dramatically expressive aspects of these 3000-year-old Indian classical dance styles. Training in classical dance begins for many at the age of seven, when the guru, or teacher, accepts a shishya, or student, as her own, thereby creating a relationship that is fostered over the course of an entire lifetime. In the Indian culture, the guru is venerated as equal to God. In keeping with this tradition, the dancers, alumni of Natya School, pay tribute to Guru Tejaswini Rao with an evening of their beloved teacher’s choreography as an expression of their deep love, affection, and respect. Visit India’s exquisite antiquity for a night and revel in its rich tradition of color, textiles, music, dance and drama.
