Jusko Named Chair of Pharmaceutical Sciences at UB

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- William J. Jusko, Ph.D., professor of pharmaceutical sciences in the University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, has been named chair of the school's Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

A UB faculty member since 1972, he had been serving as interim chair of the department.

Jusko is a fellow of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS), the American College of Clinical Pharmacology (ACCP) and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and serves on the editorial boards of seven journals.

The author of more than 400 publications, his research focuses on clinical, basic and theoretical pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of diverse drugs, particularly steroids and immunosuppressants.

Jusko has received numerous awards, among them a Fulbright Scholarship to The Mario Negri Institute for Pharmacology in Italy; the Rawls-Palmer Award from the American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics; the Russell R. Miller Award and the Distinguished Service Award, both from ACCP, and the Research Achievement Award in Pharmacokinetics, Pharmacodynamics and Drug Metabolism (PPDM) from AAPS.

He received a Sustained Achievement Award this spring from UB in recognition of his research achievements.

Jusko, who received his bachelor's and doctoral degrees from UB, lives in East Amherst.
