Program Set on Child, Adolescent Trauma Treatment

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Office of Continuing Education in the School of Social Work at the University at Buffalo will sponsor a hands-on, clinical-skills training program titled "Child and Adolescent Trauma Treatment: The Fairy Tale Model" from 8:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 10 in the Holiday Inn Amherst, 1881 Niagara Falls Blvd.

The program is designed for mental-health professionals who work with children and adolescents who have been exposed to significant trauma or loss. The program will teach participants:

* How to explain to clients how past trauma or loss can lead to ongoing problem behaviors or symptoms

* Develop a systematic and comprehensive trauma-information treatment plan

* Problem-solve challenging cases using the trauma-informed treatment perspective.

The program will be conducted by Ricky Greenwald, Psy.D., an internationally respected practicing clinical psychologist and founder and executive director of the Child Trauma Institute, a Massachusetts-based organization that provides training, consultation, information and resources for professionals who work with trauma-exposed children, adolescents and adults and cosponsor of the program.

The program fee of $99 includes lunch. Greenwald's book, "Child Trauma Handbook," will be for sale at the training.
