Bio

Mary Nell Trautner, PhD, is an associate professor in the UB Department of Sociology. Her research focuses on intersections of social inequality and social justice, asking how law, culture, and organizational practices shape the ways that inequality is created, perpetuated, and/or experienced.

Prof. Trautner's current research spans a range of topics, including analyses of  gender ideologies; prosecutorial decision-making in accidental death cases; young people's experiences with crime; and campus inclusivity practices. She is also working on an NSF-funded project about how families cope with and make decisions about their child’s birth injuries.
