You may have never heard of the Large Hadron Collider at CERN (the European Organization for Nuclear Research in Geneva, Switzerland) or the Compact Muon Solenoid experiment, but physics major Anne Fortman sure has. Anne spent the summer of 2017 collaborating with CERN Data Quality Monitoring experts to correct issues with data plots and calibrate methods of identifying certain pixels in the newly installed pixel detector. Already an expert herself, Anne has presented at the 2017 UB Celebration of Academic Excellence, the 2017 BOOST Conference and the 2016 International Conference of High Energy Physics.
"By directly involving me in the world of experimental high-energy physics, my experience at CERN prepared me for graduate school and to contribute further research in the field."
