Your initial year of college is an exciting period in your life: a time for exploration, learning, gaining independence, getting involved in new activities and having fun! When it comes to your academic success, the Student Advisement and Services Office is here to help.
Generally, it is a good idea to meet with your academic advisor at least once per semester, especially before you register for the following semester. Not sure who your advisor is? Check the HUB Student Center, or choose your major.
We encourage in-person appointments whenever possible. Our offices are in 275 Park Hall on the North Campus. Our office hours are Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm. We are closed all University holidays.
You can call the office or stop by during office hours to make an appointment, or Make an Appointment online through Navigate.
Every first-semester student will have a mid-semester review. Your instructors will be asked to submit satisfactory or unsatisfactory grades for each of your courses; these grades can be an early indicator of your performance in your classes. If you find yourself with an unsatisfactory grade, you should meet with your academic advisor as well as the instructor/s to develop a plan for success!
A negative Service Indicator, or "hold," means that you need to follow up with a particular office to complete some missing paperwork or task. It is important that you check your records through HUB to find and take care of your holds before registration, as a hold will prevent you from registering for classes.
It is important that you fully understand your academic responsibilities and know how to be successful at UB. Be sure to utilize available resources by taking advantage of free tutoring and acadaemic coaching, and becoming actively involved in your academics and student life here at UB.
