Abhipsa Chakraborty is currently in the PhD English program at UB. Her art is continuous with her ongoing interest in abstraction and atonality in her academic research.
Making forms more fluid and fracturing their contours is an artistic means to explore what lies in the unsymbolized interstices of our identified world. Her works are driven by anxieties of negotiating cultural limits between India and the West, as much as a curiosity to inhabit the deeply political and radical female subjective interiority which threatens oppressive, patriarchal constructs in vital ways. She finds an artistic expression for her questions in styles that move from impressionistic to abstract and she works with intermedial facility between oils, acrylic, charcoal and ink.
