Official UB Covid-19 Information


  • SUNY guidance regarding internships: Read this document fully if your unit has any students participating in internships. 
    • For the purpose of this document, “internships” does not include applied learning that is required for registered programs leading to NYS licensure or certification.

Information for Faculty and Staff

  • Employees’ safe return to campus: The CAS Dean’s office is working with departments and programs to develop plans to begin to return employees to campus. At this time, employees should continue to work remotely until otherwise notified by their supervisor. Visit the UB HR website for university-wide guidance.
  • CAS Student Emergency Fund: Give to the College of Arts and Sciences student emergency fund to help students during the pandemic.


  • UB received approval to move to Phase Two of the University at Buffalo Research Ramp-Up Plan.
    • During Phase Two, all research laboratories within UB are eligible to resume time-sensitive research activities.
    • Investigators are required to have an approved Laboratory Operations Plan (LOP) before beginning research in Phase Two. The LOP must be approved by both their department chair and associate dean for research (ADR). Please note information about priorities relating to time-sensitive research activities as determined by PIs should be included in lab’s operating plan.
    • VPRED will continue to accept requests from PI’s  who want their labs categorized as “essential.” The rationale being that should our region need to pull back on ramp-up efforts due to increased hospitalizations and/or COVID-19 activity in the community, those conducting essential research will be able to continue their work.
    • PIs wishing to request designation of their work as Essential Research must send to OVPRED (
      • (a) their Laboratory Operations Plan (signed by the PI, all laboratory personnel, the department Chair, and the ADR) and (b) a description of the scope of work to be considered as Essential Research.

Resources for Students

  • Student Life Information: Summer 2020 Student Life Services
  • Universal Emergency Funds: Students can apply for "Universal Emergency Funds" through UB Academic Works. These resources are available through the generosity of UB's donors and not resources from the CARES Act. UB Guidelines for distribution of CARES Act resources are not yet available.
  • Student Academic Resources: Academic Affairs has an extensive FAQ listed on their website for students with questions in relation to the transition to online learning.
  • Blue Table: students experiencing food insecurity can get support through Blue Table.
  • Health and Wellness: a variety of services are available to help students with their physical and mental health needs. Please refer students to counseling and health services.
