The UBPG is a learning-centered organization committed to student success. With university production activity providing both a backdrop and an enhancement to the classroom experience, the group utilizes student assistants and interns, and serves as a catalyst for project-based learning activities.
The UBPG’s contributions to the UB academic environment and team interaction with students is high, averaging 1860+ student contact hours per semester as paid assistants and through credit-bearing video internships. Incorporating students into the operation fulfills a crew labor role and promotes direct experience with industry professionals.
These types of real-world, hands-on experiences have launched careers, built portfolios and smoothed entries into prestigious graduate programs. Many of our alums say that being a part of a specific production, such as Springfest or Music is Art LIVE @ the Center, was their most memorable college experience, and that the UBPG played a major role in their success.
"Working with the UBPG gave me the ability to take what I was learning in the classroom and turn around and put it into practice." – Hayden Harter, BFA in Theatre Design/Technology, '18
Production Student Assistants play an important role in UBPG operations. Our PSAs explore various areas of the performing arts, surrounded by industry professionals, gaining invaluable experience for future careers in the entertainment industry.
A Video Production Internship* is also available each semester. The student intern will participate in a variety of produced and live event productions while exploring various levels of video production and receiving mentorship from field professionals.
