Spring 2021 Tableau Training Schedule

Come learn more about Tableau and do more with your data. All sessions are one hour in length and will take place on Zoom.

Session 1: Intro to Tableau (1 hr)

Date: Thursday, February 11
Time: 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.

This workshop will introduce users on how to:

  • Access dashboards on the CAS Tableau server
  • Manipulate dashboard (filtering, highlighting, grouping etc.)
  • Save personalized views
  • Sign up for subscriptions
  • Commenting
  • Downloading data

Session 2: Institutional Analytics - Graduate Admissions and Graduate Student Flow Dashboards (1 hr)

Date: Tuesday, February 23
Time: 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.

This workshop will introduce users on how to:

  • Access central dashboards via the “Dashboard of Dashboards”
  • Understand the larger picture, with ability to drill in deeper for details on impactful metrics
  • Current - Understanding comparative weekly admissions activity flow (apps, complete, offer, register)
  • History - Understanding historical patterns (apps, complete, offer, register, offer rates, yield rates)
  • Understand graduate student flow through career and outcomes for various student groups
  • Compare graduate outcome comparisons for different subgroups of students over time

Session 3: CAS Enrollment Dashboards (1 hr)

Date: Tuesday, March 9
Time: 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.

This workshop will introduce users on how to:

  • Access all enrollment dashboards on the CAS Tableau server
  • Review/manipulate headcount dashboards (filtering, highlighting, etc.)
  • Review/manipulate class schedule/capacity dashboards (filtering, highlighting, etc.)
  • Review/manipulate major count/head count dashboards (filtering, highlighting, etc.)

Session 4: Institutional Analytics - Headcount Enrollment and “WEDGE” Student Flow Dashboards (1 hr)

Date: Tuesday, March 23
Time: 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.

This workshop will introduce users on how to:

  • Access central dashboards via the “Dashboard of Dashboards”
  • Understand the larger picture, with ability to drill in deeper for details on impactful metrics
  • Understand 8-year patterns of majors by school/department/plan with 40+ filters and breakdowns
  • Understand relationships between student counts, credit taken, and tuition revenue generated for various subgroups
  • Understand undergraduate student flow between school/departments and departure timing (the WEDGE)
  • Identify potential sources of majors by understanding patterns of students transitioning in/out of departments

Session 5: CAS Tuition Revenue Dashboards (1 hr)

Date: Tuesday, April 6
Time: 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.

This workshop will introduce users on how to:

  • Access all tuition revenue dashboards on the CAS Tableau server
  • Review/manipulate tuition revenue dashboards (filtering, highlighting, etc.)
  • Review/manipulate credit hours produced dashboards (filtering, highlighting, etc.)

Session 6: Institutional Analytics - Course Utilization, Credit Hour and Tuition Revenue Dashboards (1 hr)

Date: Tuesday, April 20
Time: 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.

This workshop will introduce users on how to:

  • Access central dashboards via the “Dashboard of Dashboards”
  • Understand the larger picture, with ability to drill in deeper for details on impactful metrics
  • Understand course capacity and enrollment patterns over 6 years (fall, winter, spring, summer)
  • Understand patterns of students who have been enrolled for data-informed course section planning
  • Understand UB Curriculum historical course availability and usage, with breakdowns of enrolled students
  • Understand how course enrollments and types of enrolled students (UG/GR, IS/OS) determine tuition revenue
