What drew you to graduate work at UB?

My parents encouraged me to pursue a History MA and, being a Buffalo native, UB was a great choice.  After meeting with Dr. Radford, I was convinced that this would be an intellectually stimulating and welcoming program!

What has been your favorite class or experience so far?

I’ve really enjoyed taking the European cores, especially being a fan of English history.  I was also intrigued by German history, and am hoping to write my thesis on German literary critics of the Weimar period.  I am currently enrolled in Dr. Cahn’s Women’s History course.  I had never taken a women’s or gendered history, but I think it’s been incredibly valuable and informative.

What do you hope to do after graduation, and how do you see your degree preparing you for that goal?

I’m at a bit of an impasse regarding post-graduation plans!  I’ve always wanted to work in museums, but the more I think about it, the more I feel like I just want to walk around museums and historic sites rather than work there designing exhibits (although it would be very neat to be a researcher).  I’m also considering teaching, but need to explore that process a bit more.

What are your favorite history spots in the Buffalo-Niagara area?

I’m not currently a practicing Catholic, but I’ve always had an interest in Christian literature and iconography so I really enjoy the diverse churches in the WNY area.  I also like Forest Lawn Cemetery, although I’ve never been there at night!

If you could have dinner with one famous historical person, who would it be?

So many choices!  I’m a fan of cosmic horror, so I think I’ll go with H.P. Lovecraft this time.
