On December 4, 2024, Chijioke Ngobili, a PhD student in the Department of History, presented a guest lecture on UB’s North Campus titled “The Largest Sociocultural Convergence of the Atlantic in West Africa and the Making of Global Popular Music Culture: WWII’s Legacy.”
Ngobili explored how the transformative impact of World War II set the stage for Africa’s enduring influence on modern popular music, including today’s vibrant Afrobeats movement. His lecture illuminated the deep historical roots connecting Africa’s cultural legacy to global music trends.
