Pianist Michael Serio, a Buffalo native, performs regularly as a soloist and as a collaborative pianist throughout Western New York. Also, he often returns to Boston, where he lived for 30 years, to perform with pianist Debi Adams of the Boston Conservatory. Their partnership is known as the Well-Tempered Pianist Duo.
At UB, Michael is a vocal accompanist, basic keyboard instructor and co-instructor of the “On the Edge” performance class with Michael Tumiel. He enjoys supporting the budding careers of music performance students through accompanying lessons, recitals, juries and through performance coaching.
Michael is a certified Alexander Technique teacher who offers workshops and group classes at UB, Buffalo State and Fredonia State colleges. He is ethics committee co-chair of Alexander Technique International (ATI) and on the board of the Chromatic Club of Buffalo. He is also the Music Director at Unity Church of Buffalo.
As an undergraduate in computer science and music performance, Michael studied with Barbara Lister-Sink at the Eastman School of Music and completed his BA at UB under Stephen Manes. While in Boston, he continued piano studies with Andrew Rangell and competed in the Boston Amateur Piano competition and the Washington International Piano Competition where he was awarded third prize and the audience choice award in 2009. Michael studied the Alexander Technique under Debi Adams and completed his teacher training certification with Tommy Thompson in 2009 and ATI certification in 2010.
Michael had a career in software development prior to receiving an MM performance degree from UB under Eric Huebner in 2019. Highlights of his software career include managing the startup team that launched Berklee College’s Online Music program in 2005 and co-founding a startup for a customs jeans system that was purchased by the Levi Jeans Corporation in 1995 in Boston.
Michael and his fiancée, Anandhi George, are active volunteers in the Isha yoga community. His son Anthony is a social worker for the town of Lexington, Massachusetts, and resides in Boston.
