About

Buffalo-based, Brazilian composer Igor Coelho A. S. Marques (b. 1988) obtained his PhD in Music Composition under David Felder at the State University of New York at Buffalo, where he was a Presidential Fellow. Prior to that, Igor studied with Morris Rosenzweig as the University of Utah’s Geersten Glad scholar and was a Johannesen scholar and graduated cum laude from Brigham Young University. His music deals with his interest in the intersection of artifice and organicism and sounds and concepts related to natural phenomena and human activity, and has been played by ELISION, the Arditti Quartet, Ensemble Linea, mise-en, and others. In addition, Igor has won a call for scores by Rosetta Ensemble (Japan), the 2nd prize in the Alba Rosa Viëtor Competition (Netherlands), an honorable mention in Paraguay’s 1st International Symphonic Composition Competition, and his piece Escenas became a finalist in the 7thMivos/Kanter Prize and in the 4th Música Hoje National Composition Contest (Brazil). Most recently, Igor has: worked with the Australian new music powerhouse ELISION in preparing and presenting his multimedia PhD dissertation; conducted the premiere of a new commissioned work by Buffalo’s Sotto Voce Vocal Collective; and received an Enhancement Award from UB’s Center for 21st Century Music to attend Fondation Royaumont’s Académie Voix Nouvelles 2018.
