NCGIA-Buffalo and the Office of Research Advancement co-hosted the NIH Regional Seminar at UB on August 24, 2015. The seminar featured Dr. Denise Russo, Deputy Chief in the Maternal and Pediatric Disease Branch at NIH. Dr. Russo provided an excellent overview of NIH divisions, funding programs, and review process. The seminar also featured a panel of four prominent UB scholars with significant NIH research funding, Drs. Jo Freudenheim, Sara Metcalf, Sriram Neelamegham, and Leonard Epstein. The panelists shared their experience in the success of obtaining NIH funding and conducting advanced research.
The one-day seminar attracted more than 100 participants, including both early career scholars new to NIH as well as veteran NIH supported researchers from 10 schools (Medicine, Public Health, Engineering, Arts and Sciences, Social Work, Dental, Nursing, Pharmacy, Architecture and Planning, Roswell Part Center Institute) at UB, as well as colleagues from Canisius College, Daeman College, Niagara University, and regional healthcare organizations.
