Joyce Miller Lichtenberger earned a BA in Dance from SUNY at Buffalo in 1981 and also earned an MA in Dance, specializing in Dance Education and Dance History, from the Ohio State University in 1983. She was the recipient of a Creative and Performing Arts Scholarship while at SUNY, and is a former member of the Zodiaque Dance Company. Joyce has been instructing in the Department of Theatre & Dance at SUNYAB since 1991 and served as the Associate Director of the Zodiaque Studio Dance Ensemble for over 10 years and as Director for 2 years. Joyce is the current director of ECS (Emerging Choreographers Showcase) in the Department of Theatre and Dance and was the recipient of a “Distinguished Alumni Award” in 2013. Joyce has instructed at The Ohio State University, Erie Community College, as well as at many elementary and secondary schools. She has taught for Dance Masters of America’s Teachers Training School and SHIP programs as well as the National Association of Dance Masters in Chicago, IL. In addition, Joyce has taught at many dance studios and has been the Owner and Director of DANCENTRAL, a local dance studio, for 33 years. She is a United States Gymnastic Federation Skill Evaluator and has choreographed for many dance organizations including such prestigious events as the World University Games held in 1993. Joyce’s primary areas of research include Tap, Jazz, Contemporary and Modern dance.
