The New York Dance and Performance Awards—known as The Bessies, New York City’s premier honors for excellence in dance—has announced its nominees for the 2024 and 2025 awards. Among them is Associate Professor Chanon Judson, recognized in the category of Outstanding Choreographer/Creator alongside Mame Diarra Speis of Urban Bush Women for their acclaimed work “Haint Blu,” performed at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Harlem. https://bessies.org/the-bessies-announce-nominees-for-the-20242025-bessie-awards/
The Bessie Awards ceremony will take place on Tuesday, January 20, at 7:00 PM at Dixon Place (161A Chrystie Street, New York, NY). Nominations are determined by the Bessie Awards Selection Committee, an independent panel of dance industry professionals.
Award categories include Outstanding Choreographer/Creator, Outstanding Performer, Outstanding Revival, Outstanding Sound Design or Music Composition, Outstanding Visual Design, and Outstanding Breakout Choreographer. Additional honors will be presented for Lifetime Achievement and Service to the Field of Dance.
