BUFFALO, N.Y. – University at Buffalo President Satish K. Tripathi will confer degrees and Moses Chung will be the student speaker when UB holds its commencement ceremony for members of the College of Arts and Sciences at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 20, in Alumni Arena on the North Campus.
UB no longer holds a traditional University Commencement, instead splitting the large ceremony honoring College of Arts and Sciences’ baccalaureate recipients into two separate ceremonies differentiated by departments.
The morning ceremony will honor students graduating in the undergraduate arts, natural sciences and mathematics, and interdisciplinary programs. Troy D. Wood, associate professor of chemistry, will speak.
Chung, a native of South Korea, will graduate summa cum laude with a bachelor of arts in biological sciences and minors in math and physics. A member of the University Honors College, he is a recipient of the Knobloch Endowment Scholarship. While at the UB, Chung worked as a student researcher in the Department of Biological Sciences and actively participated in intramural soccer. He plans to pursue a dual degree in medicine and doctorate of philosophy in molecular biology.
During the ceremony, students and families are encouraged to share photos, memories and best wishes to social media using the hashtag #UBClassOf2018; those messages will stream live in the arena.
The College of Arts and Sciences will hold a second ceremony Sunday at 3 p.m. in Alumni Arena recognizing students in the undergraduate humanities and social sciences. Wendy Quinton, clinical associate professor of psychology, will speak. UB Provost Charles Zukoski will confer degrees.
