BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Alan J. Drinnan, M.D., D.D.S., professor and chair of the Department of Oral Medicine in the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine, has been named president of the American Board of Oral Pathology.
The board, established by the American Academy of Oral Pathology, oversees the granting of oral-pathology specialist credentials to individuals who have completed certified training programs. Individuals who are granted credentials are known as diplomates of the board.
One of eight specialties recognized by the American Dental Association, oral pathology deals with the nature, identification and management of diseases affecting the oral and adjacent structures of the face.
A diplomate of the American Board of Oral Pathology, Drinnan is past president of the International Association of Oral Pathologists and the American Academy of Oral Pathology.
He is director of the dental clinic at The Buffalo General Hospital and UB's Division of Hospital Dental Services.
He has been a member of the UB dental faculty since 1964.
Drinnan lives in Amherst.
