Convocation Set for Oct. 9

BUFFALO, N.Y. - The University at Buffalo will hold its eighth annual University Convocation at 3 p.m. on Oct. 9 in the Mainstage theater in the Center for the Arts on the UB North (Amherst) Campus.

The convocation, which will feature remarks from President William R. Greiner, will honor and recognize members of the campus community for outstanding achievement.

The ceremony will include a performance by the Norwood Brass and a multimedia presentation by Bruce Jackson, SUNY Distinguished Professor and Samuel Capen Professor of Humanities in the Department of English. Jackson will be recognized during the convocation for his designation a chevalier in France's National Order of Arts and Letters.

The ceremony will open with an academic procession composed of marching faculty and staff led by the chair of the Faculty Senate (Michael Cohen), the chair of the Professional Staff Senate (H. William Coles III) and the platform party.

The convocation will recognize Robert J. Wagner, senior counselor to the president, who will receive the President's Medal.

UB's newly named SUNY Distinguished Professors; the first UB Distinguished Professors, and recipients of the SUNY Chancellor's Awards also will be honored.

In addition, representatives of the university who responded to the needs of the university community on Sept. 11, 2001 will be honored as UB Stars.

Following the ceremony, Greiner and UB Provost Elizabeth D. Capaldi will host a reception in the CFA atrium.
