UB Dancers had the opportunity to participate in a movement lab with the creative team of Tiananmen, a new musical opening at the Phoenix Theater Company opening Oct. 6, 2023 in Phoenix, Arizona. Working alongside Choreographer / Director Darren Lee, Associate Director / Choreographer Kristine Bendul and show creators Drew Fornarola and Scott Elmegreen, dancers participated in an experimental movement workshop to help the choreographers to develop material before rehearsals begin in Phoenix next month. Movement lab dancers include Nathan Eck, Sophia Fino, Amanda Healey, Gianna Militello, Maurio Ligouri, Selena Pereyra, Fallon Tuholski, and NJ Wingo.

Conceived by Tiananmen Square protest leader Wu’er Kaixi, Tiananmen: A New Musical is a vital reminder of the fragility of human rights and the importance of bravery and self-determination in the face of totalitarianism.
