UB Department of Chemistry Community Involvement and Diversity & Inclusion Award

Established by the Department of Chemistry's Diversity and Inclusion Committee, this annual award aims to recognize deserving students (undergraduate and graduate), faculty, or staff who have made exemplary contributions in the areas of community involvement and promoting diversity and inclusion within and beyond the Department of Chemistry.

We encourage nominations of individuals who demonstrate impactful involvement in community or departmental projects, as well as those who actively promote an inclusive environment. Candidates may self-nominate.

Nomination package:

Required:

  • A statement (300 or fewer words) detailing the candidate’s activities and impact in either community involvement or diversity and inclusion efforts.
  • One nomination letter from a member of the UB Chemistry faculty, staff, or student.

Optional: Supplemental letter may be considered if it offers compelling, first-hand observation of the candidate's activities.

Preference will be given to individuals who:

  • Have displayed consistent and meaningful involvement.
  • Have effectively advocated for underrepresented or marginalized groups within the Department of Chemistry, UB, and Western New York.

How and when to submit a nomination:

  • Email nomination package, as one PDF file, to ubchem@buffalo.edu.
  • Submission window opens February 19 with a deadline of March 31 for submission of all nomination components.

Evaluation of nominations:

  • Award recipients will be selected by Chemistry’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee and announced in May.

Award:

  • Plaque of Recognition
  • Feature on the Department of Chemistry's displays and website
  • Optional monetary award for professional development (based on available funding)
