Research Areas

UB student Madison Williams works with a local high school student in a chemistry lab.

Find your research focus

The Department of Chemistry supports research across a broad spectrum of chemical science, backed by advanced facilities such as high performance computational resources and specialized laboratories. These research areas reflect both foundational chemistry and emerging interdisciplinary fields.

Get involved in research

Students are encouraged to explore these research areas and discover opportunities to participate in research through labs, independent projects and interdisciplinary collaborations.

UB faculty outreach seminars

Our most valuable resource is the students who are actively engaged in research. Faculty from UB’s Department of Chemistry would be pleased to visit your campus and to present some of our research to you, your colleagues and your students.

If you are interested in learning about the research taking place in the department, consider scheduling a UB Faculty Outreach Seminar to learn more about topics and themes. If you would like to arrange a visit by one of our faculty, please see the faculty directory to contact them directly. You may also contact the chair of our Graduate Recruiting Committee, Prof. Andrew Murkin, at amurkin@buffalo.edu or (716) 645-4249.
