Department of Jewish Thought

Jewish Thoughts Students gathered behind a conference table.

The Department of Jewish Thought examines the central questions of human identity through the lens of the Jewish tradition. By centering on the intellectual resources of Judaism from antiquity to the present, students learn to combine the latest theoretical approaches with millennia-long tradition to address challenges of modern society.

Experiential Learning

Our department’s experiential learning opportunities provide students with the chance to deepen their understanding of the world beyond the classroom.

  • Explore what makes you curious through a directed or independent study course
  • Participate in a credit-bearing internship with a Jewish non- profit organization or company
  • Study abroad at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Tel-Aviv University or University of Haifa

Career-Focused

A degree from our department opens doors to further study and a wide range of fulfilling careers that require a special combination of intellectual curiosity, emotional maturity and mental dexterity. With these skills, our students have successfully pursued careers in medicine, law, business, higher education, advocacy, the arts, historical preservation and more.
