Alliance Française de Buffalo Holds Annual Excellence in French Competition

High school French students from across Western New York participated in the annual Excellence in French Studies Competition held at SUNY at Buffalo on Saturday, April 14th. Eighteen committed and motivated students braved cold and stormy weather early on a Saturday morning to complete a rigorous dictée excerpted from Le Petit Prince.  The competition is co-sponsored and funded by the SUNY at Buffalo Melodia Jones Fund Chair.

Total cash prizes of $450 were awarded to Libby Malone, first place, Nichols School (Thomas Michaud, teacher); Roy Lahood second place, Nichols School (Thomas Michaud, teacher); and Michael McClure, third place, Nichols School (Thomas Michaud, teacher).  Honorable Mentions prizes were awarded to Dana Nigrin, Nichols School; and Alyssa Deacon, Lancaster High School (Marie Augustine, teacher).  These students will be honored at the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures' commencement ceremony on May 18th.
