Meet the College’s Blue and Bold student team
The College of Arts and Sciences has a new student social media team, working with the marketing and communications office this semester to create and curate content that highlights the college. From brainstorming social media post ideas to producing and assisting with videos, the Blue and Bold team focuses on showcasing student experiences in engaging ways.
Edward Chiu
Communications (Marketing) | Senior | Brooklyn, N.Y.
Edward is a senior majoring in communications with a focus in marketing. A Brooklyn native, he chose UB to gain valuable life experiences and develop professional skills outside of New York City.
As a content creator and social media influencer, Edward produces engaging marketing and digital content across social platforms while representing the College.
Edward says he’s looking forward to making an impact during his senior year, building connections, and expanding his portfolio. When taking a break between classes, Edward’s go-to campus meal is the turkey avocado BLT from The Grill at One World Café, and to unwind, he heads to Catalyst Fitness.
Madison Johnson
English | Senior | North Tonawanda, N.Y.
Madison is a senior majoring in English with a minor in political science. Originally from North Tonawanda, she transferred to UB during her first year. She says she chose UB for its strong academic resources as she prepares for a future career in law.
As a social media student assistant for the College, Madison collaborates with the team to brainstorm and produce content and she’s excited to combine her knowledge of campus life with current social media trends to create fun, relatable content for students.
Through this role, Madison hopes to gain a deeper understanding of the diverse student experiences at UB while building skills she can apply to her future endeavors. When she’s on campus, she loves grabbing a fun drink — usually from Starbucks or Whispers Café in Silverman — and enjoys stopping by 7Brew or Tea Leaf Cafe off campus.
Ryan Maksymyshyn
Media Study (Production) | Sophomore | Syracuse, N.Y.
Ryan is a sophomore majoring in media study with a concentration in production. Originally from Syracuse, Ryan chose UB because of his family’s strong ties to Buffalo and the opportunity to grow creatively in a new environment.
On the Blue and Bold team, Ryan helps create and curate visual content that highlights student life and campus experiences. He’s especially passionate about producing thoughtful, inclusive content that resonates with students and builds community.
In this role, Ryan hopes to strengthen his skills in storytelling, digital media production, branding and audience engagement.
When not in class or capturing videos, Ryan walks laps around North Campus with his headphones on. He says it’s a simple routine that helps him reset and refocus.
