The collection brings together short, accessible essays from the feminist digital publication "Nursing Clio," which since 2012 has explored the deep historical roots of today’s issues around health, gender and sexuality. The book is designed for use in classrooms and aims to help students better understand the past in order to engage with current debates.
Handley-Cousins has served as executive editor of "Nursing Clio" since 2021. In June 2025, the publication received the Rosen Prize from the American Association for the History of Medicine, recognizing its excellence in public health history.
"Nursing Clio" has built a reputation for combining historical scholarship with timely, public-facing commentary, making it a powerful tool for both educators and general readers.
