Application Instructions

Step 1: Click "Apply Now" 

Step 2: Complete steps to create your account. You should receive a temporary password as part of the process. After completing these steps, click "Start New Application"

Step 3: Select "Humanities Interdisciplinary - Concentration in Disability Studies (MA)" or "Disability Studies (Advanced Certificate)"

Application Deadlines

For full consideration for fall semester, please submit all application materials no later than June 30.

For full consideration for spring semester, please submit all application materials no later than October 31.

The UB Center for Disability Studies has a rolling review process for all applications. If you intend to use any type of financial aid, please submit your application materials in a timely manner and request expedited review of your application.

Application Materials

  • Unofficial transcript(s) from every institution you have previously attended (official transcripts will be required after acceptance)
  • Personal statement that explains your background, educational and career aims, and reasons for applying to this program
  • CV/Resume
  • Writing sample (term paper, published article, or conference paper)- maximum 20 pages 
  • Two letters of recommendation from people who know your academic work or employment background

GRE scores are not required for MA applicants. 

Non-refundable application fee: $75

After you submit your UB graduate application, you’ll be prompted to make your payment online by credit card or ACH through Nelnet.

U.S. citizens or current permanent residents may request a fee waiver through the application portal after completing the graduate application and uploading all required materials.

International Students

In addition to the above materials, all international applicants must submit:
  • Official language proficiency test scoresPTE Academic, IELTS, or TOEFL scores (less than two years old). Please contact ETS and request your official TOEFL score be sent to us using the following information: Institution code: 2925
  • A copy of your passport's biographical page
  • An online International Student Graduate Financial Form, as well as certified bank statements proving the information submitted on the financial form.
