The department announces the retirements of Richelle Allen-King and Greg Valentine, who concluded distinguished careers this spring. They continue to mentor graduate students and conduct research as Emeriti Professors.
Allen-King joined UB in 2003 and became the first female faculty member to receive tenure in our department. She served as department chair, director of graduate studies, and as program officer for Hydrologic Sciences at the National Science Foundation. She also helped to create “Fundamentals of Geological Research” (ERT 501).
Valentine started at UB in 2008 and redesigned the department's mineralogy and petrology curriculum into the "Earth Materials" sequence. A passionate field volcanologist, he regularly took students into the western United States through courses including "Volcanic Rocks" and "Geological Field Training."
