LIN 496 - English Language Teaching Internship

LIN 496 allows students to earn UB credit, gain valuable teaching experience, and make a meaningful contribution to the community all at the same time. The Department of Linguistics places UB undergraduate students in the Buffalo Public Schools as a teacher's aid or tutor to work with children on developing their language and literacy skills.

Interns are placed in an early childhood school, an elementary school, a middle school, or a high school. The children in the schools include Spanish-English bilinguals, inner-city children, and international students.

Course Requirements

  • 3 Credits = 112 hours of work (approximately 8-10 hours per week)
  • Open to undergradutes from any major and grade level who are native or near-native speakers of English and have at least a 2.0 GPA
