Professor Richard A. Cohen works in the area of modern and contemporary continental philosophy and Jewish thought, with a recent emphasis on political philosophy. His latest single-author book is Out of Control: Confrontations between Spinoza and Levinas (Albany: State University of New York Press, 2016).  He is  Director of the annual Levinas Philosophy Summer Seminar, which has been funded by the NEH in 2017 and 2020.  Cohen was invited during spring semester 2019 to be a Visiting Research Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Rome – La Sapienza.
