Purpose of the Course:

This course aims to provide you with an overview of print, online and broadcast journalism, including but not limited to:

  • An understanding of how to write a news story
  • Practice writing various kinds of news stories
  • A review of the different types of beats and stories
  • An exploration of reporting principles
  • An examination of laws, ethics and good taste in journalism

Class Format:

The class will include lectures, discussions, and a weekly writing lab to give students practice writing journalistically. Because journalists must know the latest news in order to do their jobs properly, it is important that you keep informed. It does not matter which type of media you use, but be informed of the latest news.
