Event Details

June in Buffalo 2025 will be fully in-person and held at the University at Buffalo North Campus from Sunday, June 1–Saturday, June 7, 2025.

Application Process

Take advantage of this unique opportunity to showcase your compositions and work with leading composers and ensembles! Here's how:

Submit your materials directly to our UBBox folder. Be sure to include the following:

1. Resume or Curriculum Vitae

  • Detail your education, experience, and creative activity.
  • Format the file name as LastName_FirstName_resume.
  • Include your full name, email address, institutional affiliation, and recommender name in the document.

2. Performance Proposals and Scores

  • Submit one or two proposals for works to be performed by June in Buffalo’s resident ensembles.
  • Propose works for up to two ensembles, or solo works for standard orchestral instruments (with or without electronics).
  • Solo works (with or without electronics) for saxophone, piano, guitar and soprano voice are welcome.
  • Proposals should briefly describe the work, including length, full instrumentation and any technical requirements.
  • Fixed media or live electronics works (without instrumental or vocal performers) will also be considered.
  • Proposals of works in progress will be considered.

Ensemble Instrumentations

The available ensemble instrumentations are as follows:

Briefly describe each work, including length, instrumentation, and technical requirements. Works in progress may also be proposed (submit a partial score and description).

Meridian Arts Ensemble:

2 trumpets, French horn, trombone, and tuba.

Slee Sinfonietta:

 Flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, French horn, 2 violins, viola, cello, double bass, piano/keyboards and 2 percussion. Proposals may include soprano voice. Standard doublings are available for flute, clarinet and oboe.

  • Category A: Small ensemble (up to 5 players).
  • Category B: Large ensemble (maximum 10 players).
[Switch~ Ensemble]:

 Flute, clarinet, saxophone, violin, cello, piano and percussion. Technological components are encouraged.

3. Scores

  • Submit scores of your proposed works and one or two additional scores showcasing your recent compositional activity.
  • For works in progress, please send whatever partial scores or sketch materials you feel will be represent the current state of your work.

4. Letter of Reference

  • Submit a letter of reference from someone acquainted with your current compositional activity.
  • Ask your recommender to upload their letter using this separate UBBox link below:

5. Email Professor Jonathan Golove

  • Email Jonathan Golove and indicate whether you wish to apply for full participation or auditor status.

6. Processing Fee

  • Pay the $25 non-refundable processing fee online via the UB Marketplace.
Application Deadline:

Applying as an Auditor

Apply to be an Auditor and have access to:

  • Senior composer lectures.
  • Afternoon and evening concerts.
  • Masterclasses (as observers without presenting their own work).

Tuition and Housing Costs

Tuition

Participant Tuition: $800
Auditor Tuition: $400

Housing Costs

On-campus housing is available for non-UB students. The festival offers up to eight nights of accommodations in University dormitories at a cost of $650.00 per participant.
