UB geographer Le Wang is using AI and satellite imagery to tackle big environmental and urban challenges—from tracking invasive plants to mapping abandoned homes. His pioneering work in remote sensing has earned the 2026 Outstanding Contribution Award from the American Association of Geographers.
The geographer is the first from UB to receive the honor, which recognizes exceptional contributions to the field through research, teaching or outreach.
Maria Arangoa senior studying English, environmental sustainability and global gender and sexuality studies, will use funding from the award to support their projects and engage more students interested in sustainability.
