Love and music are two of the most recognized universal languages. UB faculty member and soprano Tiffany Du Mouchelle will take them both on in a performance on May 6 in which she sings about love in 100 languages.
The concert, which also will feature two of Du Mouchelle’s students — Taryn Goehrig and Isabella Ruof — and vibraphonist Stephen Solook, will take place at 5 p.m. in Baird Recital Hall, 250 Baird Hall, North Campus.
The concert will open with two works by Stuart Saunders Smith. Soprano Goehrig and mezzo-soprano Ruof will perform “Light,” followed by Du Mouchelle and Solook presenting the world premiere of “Our Home.”
After a brief intermission, Du Mouchelle will take the stage for “Love Songs,” an unaccompanied operatic song cycle for soprano by Serbian/Canadian composer Ana Sokolovic.
She will present the many types of love — from a child’s love to the love of a parent and all the loves in between — in 100 languages and many vocal styles, with the primary text being “I love you.”
A UB faculty since 2015, Du Mouchelle is praised for her musical versatility, an electric stage presence and exceptional dramatic sensibilities. Best known for her fearlessness in exploring new and challenging repertoire, she tackles a vast array of languages and musical styles, ranging from classical, world, contemporary, cabaret and theatrical.
Recipient of the prestigious Richard F. Gold Career Grant for American Opera Singers, Du Mouchelle has performed with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Bang on a Can All-Stars, Center for Contemporary Opera, Yellow Barn Music Festival, Skalholt Summer Music Series in Iceland, Norfolk Chamber Music Festival and American Composers Alliance.
