  • UB launches Center for Information Integrity to fight online disinformation

    The journalists on the front lines of digital media didn’t embrace Lyu’s technical innovations. They knew that identifying fakes wasn’t enough. Users could unwittingly spread sensationalized fiction and bogus accounts with curatorial algorithms amplified fakery by targeting those who (turning the aphorism on its head) might find fiction stranger (more entertaining or believable) than truth — and it doesn’t take much to turn a fundamental truth into a spicy, online falsehood.
  • Study looks at how friends can combat unwanted sexual experiences in college

    A new UB study is helping researchers understand how women in their early college years can use friends-based strategies to help avoid unwanted sexual experiences. Friends are protective by nature, but this study looked specifically at something called “capable guardianship” — one aspect of friendship that can be especially helpful.
  • Exhibit addressing art, tech, identity wins major award for museum

    The exhibit, “Difference Machines: Technology and Identity in Contemporary Art,” won the top prize for exhibitions at museums with annual operating budgets of up to $10 million. It was curated by Paul Vanouse, professor in the Department of Art and founding director of the Coalesce Center for Biological Art at UB, and Tina Rivers Ryan, assistant curator at the Albright-Knox.
  • Exhibition celebrates 50 years of Indigenous studies at UB

    An exhibition celebrating 50 years of Indigenous studies at UB that showcases the work of 48 artists from the Hodinöhsö:ni’ Confederacy is now on view in the UB Art Galleries. “O’nigöëi:yo:h Thinking In Indian” encompasses various media and platforms, including digital data, black ash, moose hair, glass beads, paint and more.
  • Mitchell joins UB as Distinguished Visiting Scholar

    Nineteenth-century French historian Robin Mitchell will join the Department of History, College of Arts and Sciences, as a Distinguished Visiting Scholar for the 2022-23 academic year.
